Core webinar: Diversity Audits in Academic Library Collections

    Date: Tuesday, April 11, 2023

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

Description: In this webinar, attendees will learn about the use of audits as a way to assess the diversity and inclusivity of their academic library collections. Using questions and challenges that other academic libraries frequently ask about designing and conducting diversity audits, the presenters will walk attendees through important pieces to consider, and discuss ways that institutions of different types and sizes can adapt diversity audits to their own collections.

    Learning outcomes:

At the end of this webinar, the attendees will be able to:

    • have a stronger understanding of the diversity audit process and the questions they will need to consider specific to their institutions.

    • leave the webinar with suggested resources and readings to use while designing their audit.

    Who should attend?

Anyone working in academic libraries or who would like to work in academic libraries is encouraged to attend.

    Presenters:

María Evelia Emerson (she/her) is the Student Success Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She earned her BA in Spanish and International Studies at Hope College, and her MLIS at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research grows out of her work at small colleges and now a Big 10 school on how academic libraries can support a sense of belonging in students. María has presented with InfoBase and will be presenting at ACRL in March 2023.

Lauryn Lehman is the Academic Advisor and Coordinator of Undergraduate Affairs at the School of Information Sciences at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She holds a MS in Library and Information Science and a MA in African Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Lauryn is passionate in her belief that academic libraries need to shake things up every once in a while, and is willing to try anything once to teach information literacy, engage with students, and build exciting collections. Lauryn has presented with InfoBase and will be presenting at ACRL in March 2023.
