Hello everyone,
Thank you for joining us in April for our discussion of HR-related issues! Here are the notes from that meeting:
-
There is a trend happening around smaller candidate pools but hearing from graduates that they are not getting callbacks
-
Some of the issues may be compensation, location
-
Maybe some differences between the types of positions that are being hired for-some positions experiencing smaller candidate pools than others
-
If there are additional degrees required, the pools are even smaller but institutions may not want to hire candidates who don't have a second degree to give them time to get that degree
-
Do faculty requirements make a difference-i.e. tenure track lines vs being considered staff or non-tenure track positions
-
Challenges with student pay and workstudy, the number of hours they want to work, limitations around how this is structured and how libraries can support this population-remote vs in-person work, hours, keeping up with wage increases, budget limitations. International student limitations and challenges in terms of the types of jobs they can apply for and limits around their ability to get workstudy etc.
This month's theme is an informal, lightly moderated, synchronous zoom discussion session around the topic of leadership development and will be held on Thursday, May 25th at 9am PST/10am MTN/11am CST/12pm EST. Participants can stop in for a minute, or stay for the entire session. Participants don't need to be a member of ALA or ALA Core to participate, but individuals will need to register here.
We also encourage everyone to comment and add to the existing discussions here in our Connect site. Thank you!
