  • 1.  Controlled Vocabularies for Mental Health Resources?

    Posted Feb 24, 2023 10:39 AM

    Hi all!

I'm a digital librarian for an international association for a specific mental health therapy. I'm tasked with building a digital repository for resources related to this therapy, primarily for use by clinicians. What thesauri/controlled vocabularies exist specific to mental health topics? Are there other things I should consider when choosing a controlled vocabulary to use?

    Thanks!

    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

Take a look at thesauri/taxonomies used in Medline Plus and PubMed. The one well-known is MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). The selection of a thesaurus depends on the content, target audience, and the function of your digital repository. You can create a thesaurus from your corpus or adapt an existing thesaurus/controlled vocabulary.

    Hopefully it helps.

    Best,

    Joan
