    Posted Jun 16, 2025 11:14 AM

The Creative Ideas in Technical Services Interest Group (CITSIG) will be meeting at ALA in Philadelphia at 9am Sunday morning.  We will be meeting in the same room as the Metadata & Collection All Section & Committee Meeting.  Our meeting is not on the ALA Scheduler, so be sure to pencil it in!

    Sunday, June 29, 2025

    9am-10am

    Sheraton, Liberty Ballroom B

We will have three discussion tables:

    Change Management in Technical Services

Led by Katherine Manifold, Catalog Metadata Integrity Librarian, University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries

In Ransom and Knighton's (1996) definition of change management, they write that it is "intentionally building a process for achieving a company's strategic objective" by "paying attention to key elements that ensure effective change", but note that there is "a big difference between just changing an organization-say merging two departments into one–and building ongoing capacity for change into an organization." In the technical services environment, both the ability to navigate a singular large change and building a capacity for change are important. Scholarship on this topic often starts with a laundry list of changes: system migrations, the implementation of linked data, adjusting workflows for decreased staffing and budget, etc. Due to the variety of these changes and of change management approaches, the goal of this roundtable discussion is to encourage conversation about participants' experiences with change, how they/their institutions managed it, and what they would have done differently. Specific topics, such as managing resistance to change, will also be discussed.

    1. Public and Academic Library Collections Supporting Immigrants, Refugees, and Displaced Persons

Led by Derek Wilmott, Acquisitions and Collection Management Librarian, University of Toledo

I am interested in sharing and hearing thoughts on building and maintaining print collections supporting or raising awareness of cultural, racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender diversity of immigrant communities during these politically fraught times. It would be interesting to hear what is happening with our public libraries who are facing book challenges/bans impacting their ability to support their immigrant communities. I would also like to discuss and hear from others in academic libraries who are finding it difficult to build and maintain print collections supporting their international students. I am open to discussions cataloging related, specifically as to potential issues with LCC and DC systems replacing terms of geographic headings and other subject headings.

    1. Technical Services Conundrums

Led by Amy Dumouchel Dittman, Head of Electronic Resources & Serials, Harvard Library, and Robin Buser, Supervisor of Acquisitions & Metadata Services, Columbus State Community College

We will be discussion possible solutions for the conundrums that have been posted to the discussion list this year and a couple of new conundrums.  Bring your conundrums too!

    Come join us!!
