Purpose: Provides a forum for researching potential applications of Machine and Deep Learning in library science, including discussions, publications, and outreach to the wider Library community. Its goal is to educate librarians on uses of the complex techniques of machine learning and to provide a space for critically thinking both about new applications, and about the ethical and social impact of these technologies , as the field rapidly expands in the coming decade.

This group is part of Core's Technology Section.

  • 1.  Call for Vice Co-Chairs

    Dear all,

    The Core AI/Machine Learning in Libraries Interest Group seeks two volunteers to serve one year (2023-2024) as vice co-chairs, then transitioning to co-chairs the next year (2024-2025). Our charge is to discuss informally Artificial Intelligence and its potential applications along with Machine and Deep Learning as they apply to library science.

    As vice co-chair, you will assist with planning and delivering the Group's meetings, including solicitation for speaking and selecting topics to be present. As co-chair, you will assume full responsibility for planning the meetings, filing reports to ALA, and selecting incoming vice co-chairs. Attendance at ALA/ CORE conference where the Interest Group will have sessions.  No prior experience is required.
