The Core Competencies and Education for a Career in Cataloging Interest Group seeks proposals for its meeting during the Core Week, March 2-6, 2026. The group facilitates active conversation among librarians, library educators, and information professionals about the current state of education and employment in cataloging and explores the relationship between cataloging practitioners and employers with library educators.
The Core Competencies and Education for a Career in Cataloging IG session will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM CT.
We welcome proposals for 15-minute presentations that discuss any aspects of cataloging education and training, including, but not limited to, the following topics:

The state of formal cataloging education in LIS programs

On the job cataloging training
-
Designing and conducting on-the-job cataloging training for Official RDA, BIBFRAME, linked data, AI/LLMs, or other emerging cataloging standards and technologies

Teaching and learning computer programming and other tools for batch cataloging and database cleanup

The use of the Core Competencies for Cataloging and Metadata Professional Librarians in library education
We look forward to providing an engaging session with 3 short presentations (15 minutes max) offered in close succession, followed by a brief Q&A session.

The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, January 30, 2026. The notification about the decisions will be sent out by Friday, February 6, 2026.
