The Core Faceted Subject Access Interest Group (FSAIG) of the American Library Association is soliciting proposals for presentations at the 2026 Core Interest Group Week. FSAIG's session will be held online on Tuesday, March 3rd at 2 pm Eastern / 1 pm Central / 12 pm Mountain / 11 am Pacific.
Share your experiences using or studying faceted subject access! Submissions may include, but are not limited to the following topics:

Training needs and challenges related to subject vocabularies

Discovery systems and faceted subject vocabularies

Adding faceted vocabularies to legacy data

Using tools, programs, or applications to assign faceted vocabularies

Linked data integration with faceted subject vocabularies
-
The role of AI and machine learning in faceted subject vocabularies
-
Use of faceted vocabularies in the catalog or other contexts, such as digital repositories
-
Problems or issues discovered when working with different faceted vocabularies
-
Methods for converting or crosswalking pre-coordinated subjects to faceted vocabularies
We are seeking presentations of 15-20 minutes in length. Please email the proposal title and 100 - 200 word abstract to both co-chairs, Andrea Schuba (aschuba@umd.edu) and Lori Dekydtspotter (lodekydt@iu.edu), by Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 11:59 p.m Hawaii-Aleutian time. You do not need to be a member of the Core Faceted Subject Access Interest Group in order to present.
The Faceted Subject Access Interest Group is charged with discussing the theory and applications related to subject terminology intended for faceted application, including FAST (Faceted Application of Subject Terminology), AAT (Art and Architecture Thesaurus), LCGFT (Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms), LCMPT (Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus for Music), LCDGT (Library of Congress Demographic Group Terms) and others.
