Purpose: Discusses the various issues involved in cataloging, classification, authority control and metadata application after the initial cataloging has been performed, including its impact on discovery. Provides a forum for exchanging information and discussing techniques, new developments, and problems with managing the data integrity of library catalogs and related discovery tools.

    The ALA Core Catalog Management Interest Group seeks speakers to present at its meeting during the ALA Core Interest Group Week 2023, to take place from March 6-10, 2023. This specific session will take place on Friday, March 10th, 2023 from 10am-11am Pacific/11am-12pm Mountain/12pm-1pm Central/1pm-2pm Eastern.

    The Catalog Management Interest Group discusses the various issues involved in bibliographic control, authority control, holding and item issues, metadata application, and their impact on discovery and user access. The group provides a forum for exchanging information and discussing how to apply current techniques and new developments, including but not limited to: resolving technical problems, ethical dilemmas, and diversity concerns with managing the data integrity and data availability of library catalogs and related discovery tools.

    Presentation topics might include, but are certainly not limited to:
    • Providing or improving access to digitized collections
    • Processes for updating existing records to reflect digital versions
    • Transforming existing records for use in an institutional repository
    • Describing collections to enhance user experience
    • Subject analysis and classification to support diversity, inclusion, or equity
    • Modifying granularity or fullness of records to improve discovery
    • ILS migration
    • Workflows for managing data
    • Relevant project or staff management
    • Relevant training tips and tools
    • Updating records to support linked data
    Please submit your proposal by emailing the Interest Group's Co-Chairs, Jeanette Kalchik (jkalchik@stanford.edu) and Cindy Tian (ttian@nd.edu) by Friday, February 10, 2023. Selected presentations will be notified by February 15, 2023.
