AI and machine learning interest group,
The U.S. federal government is currently in the process of regulating artificial intelligence (AI) ethics. The President's Office of Science and Technology Policy has a list of questions posted for the public to provide input on what artificial intelligence policy should be. Those are at https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/05/26/2023-11346/request-for-information-national-priorities-for-artificial-intelligence .
There are 29 questions total about various aspects of artificial intelligence policy and regulation, and any member of the public can answer any question or combination of questions. The Office of Science and Technology Policy will have someone read through all public comments, and take account of them while deciding whether and how to regulate AI in the U.S. If you want to submit a comment, it's as easy as clicking the green "Submit a Formal Comment" button in the top right corner of that site.
Librarians are uniquely positioned to understand issues like datasets, data ethics, privacy, and information literacy. This is a time when it's possible to make your voice heard and to have an impact on public policy around AI. The deadline to submit on this specific list of questions is July 7, 2023.
Best,
-Wilhelmina
