Hello PCC members,
Following the PCC Policy Committee's endorsement of the recommendation on evaluating non-Latin script variants in Name Authority Records for each language and script, the PCC SCS Non-Latin Script Variants in NARs Task Group is launching a pilot to test the proposed recommendation and evaluation guidelines. The pilot will focus on applying the guidelines in practice, including testing approaches for coding preferred non-Latin script references and gathering feedback to identify challenges, refine workflows, and support future implementation.
We are seeking NACO-independent catalogers who work with non-Latin scripts and have relevant language expertise to participate in this pilot.
The following scripts are included in the pilot: Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, and any expanded scripts that are listed and supported by OCLC. The Library of Congress uses an expanded list for its testers.
All testers will participate in training sessions before the pilot testing begins. Additional support will be provided through webinars, office hours, a mailing list, and other resources as needed throughout the pilot period.
Estimated dates of pilot test: August-December 2026.
