    The Role of Professional Librarians in Technical Services Interest Group (RPLTS IG) of Core seeks facilitators for face-to-face roundtable discussions for its meeting at the 2025 ALA Annual Conference, taking place on Sunday, June 29, from 9:00-10:00 am at the Philadelphia Convention Center.

    Those interested in participating as a discussion facilitator should submit a proposal that includes:

      *   The topic you wish to explore. Topics should relate to the role of professional librarians in Technical Services (hiring, supervision, staff evaluation, training, management, assessment, etc.) in academic libraries

      *   An abstract explaining the topic and its importance

      *   Three sample discussion questions

    Potential discussion topics could include, but are not limited to:

    • advocacy and outreach

    • artificial intelligence

    • assessment

    • equity, diversity and inclusion

    • hiring best practices

    • management techniques

    • project management

    • research related to technical services

    • staff development

    • systems and workflows

    • vendor relations

    Roundtable discussions are small, informal group discussions intended to give participants the opportunity to network, discuss best practices, and share information. Discussion facilitators are responsible for identifying and developing a topic, creating discussion questions, facilitating a discussion and sharing back to the larger group. If similar proposals are submitted and accepted, facilitators may be asked to co-facilitate.

    Housed within the Core division of ALA, the Role of Professional Librarians in Technical Services Interest Group  was created to provide a forum to discuss common issues surrounding the role of professional librarians in technical services and professional activities such as training, project management, research, assessment, supervision, or hiring in the technical services area of academic research libraries.
