The editorial collective of POEM (Project on Open and Evolving Metaliteracies), a new IMLS-funded online publication, seeks three co-editors to join the project team for the two-year grant period. The deadline to apply is September 3, 2024.
A $5,000 stipend (divided over the two years) is offered for this work.
POEM (Project of Open and Evolving Metaliteracies) is an open educational resource containing peer-reviewed, bilingual (Spanish - English) essays, videos, online games, and other open educational resources in the broad field of information literacy. It will be a reliable library of curated and contextualized materials for teaching and learning, designed to help high school and college librarians and instructors teach in three main areas: (1) AI and algorithmic literacy; (2) data and computational literacy; and (3) media and mis- and dis-information literacy.
Each area, stewarded by two co-editors, will be divided into ten topics, or keywords, which will in turn be introduced, explained, and curated by an expert in the field. These expert curators will bring together existing and new open teaching and learning resources that explicate, interrogate, and complicate the keywords and provide opportunities for engagement across a range of modalities and learning styles.
The three new POEM co-editors, one in each area (AI and algorithmic literacy; data and computational literacy; and media and mis/disinformation literacy) will join the three current co-editors in assuming shared responsibility for the editorial management, production, and publication of POEM. This work will include:
-
Authoring and sharing call for curators and keywords widely
-
Selection of curators and keywords (from responses to an open call)
-
Co-authoring an introduction to the relevant area
-
Shepherding curator introductions through translation and peer review
-
Ensuring all materials meet accessibility standards
-
Ensuring all materials have the correct license and permissions
-
General oversight of processes related to topic-related outreach, peer review, copyediting, and digital publishing
-
Ensuring all teaching and learning resources curated under keywords feature a diversity of voices, learning types, and modalities
-
Representing the project at a national conference (covered by the grant)
We are particularly excited to welcome applications from:
