Best of Core Forum webinar: Anti-Racist Acquisitions: Interrogating Processes
Date: Wednesday, March 22, 2023
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.
Description: The process and policies of acquiring materials are often overlooked when considering developing an inclusive and anti-racist collection. This presentation will reflect upon how Whiteness manifests in library processes for acquiring materials and is grounded in Diane Gusa's White Institutional Presence (WIP) framework. This presentation will offer questions participants can use to interrogate their own processes and policies, and will engage participants in small group discussions.
Learning outcomes:

Participants will gain a basic understanding of Diane Gusa's White Institutional Presence Framework.

Participants will learn questions to use to interrogate Whiteness within their own processes and policies for acquiring materials and within approval plans.

Participants will practice reflecting upon and responding to the questions.
Who should attend?
Acquisitions, Collection Development, or other library professionals who are guided by processes, policies, and workflows in their work.

Arthur Aguilera is the Collection Assessment Librarian at University of Colorado Boulder.
