About this Group

Purpose: Provides a forum for discussion of issues related to Linked Library Data and the role of library metadata in the Semantic web. Goals include: raising awareness of Semantic Web technologies, such as the Resource Description Framework (RDF) and the use of URIs as identifiers within bibliographic descriptions; promoting research on linked data challenges, such as domain modeling and vocabulary selection and design; and informing the ongoing development of existing metadata standards for Libraries, Archives and Cultural Heritage Institutions.

    Dear Colleagues,

    On behalf of the Linked Data Interest Group, I want to extend our thanks to each and every one of you who attended our meeting on June 30th, 2024, in beautiful San Diego, at the ALA Annual Conference.

    Your presence and participation were instrumental in making the committee meetup a success. 

    ALA Linked Open Data Committee Meeting

    From the engaging discussions to the insightful dialog, the meeting shows the strength and vitality of our community. It was inspiring to see such a diverse group of librarians, archivists, data specialists, and technology experts come together with a shared commitment to advancing linked open data in the library field.

    We were thrilled to see the enthusiasm for exploring new strategies and innovations in linked data, and the collaborative spirit was truly contagious.  

    A special thank you goes out to Jeff Mixter, the Linked Data Interest Group, past chair. His expertise and leadership provided valuable perspectives and sparked meaningful dialogue.

    We are also delighted to introduce ourselves as the new Co-Chairs who will be guiding our group throughout 2024-2025:

    • Yelena Gordiyenko, from the University of Colorado-Denver Auraria Library, who will serve as Co-Chair from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
    • Chris Cabrera Thompson, from the University of California, Los Angeles, , who will also serve as Co-Chair during the same period.

    We are excited to support this committee as we continue to work at expanding our impact in the realm of linked open data.  For those who couldn't join us in San Diego, we missed you and hope to connect soon.

    Once again, thank you for making the ALA Linked Data Interest Group meeting a memorable and impactful event.  

    We look forward to seeing you at future gatherings and continuing our shared journey towards advancing linked open data in libraries.
