Is anyone attending ALA this weekend in Chicago? I am not able to attend this year, so I'd love to hear about the exciting things you're seeing, learning, and doing! If you attend a great program, see something interesting in the exhibit hall, or feel inspired after hearing a keynote or engaging in an insightful conversation with a colleague from another library - please post about it here!

    Hi Erica and All!

I'm here in the windy city! It's been beautiful weather so far, and there was a preconference yesterday at the Chicago Public Library on Genealogy and Local History. One of the topics that came  up was collection development when it comes to historical items, which is an interesting topic.

What do you do at your local library? Do you have ways of collecting unique, local history items??

At Somerset County Library System of NJ, we've purchased some yearbooks to fill in gaps, but that's been the extent of it.

I'm sharing a pic of the Chicago Public Library for those who can't be here. Let's just say that it's a beauty!

    Gorgeous!!

Here at CML we've been lucky enough to have some sizable donations of historical materials for our Local History & Genealogy division at our Main Library, as well as for our Black Heritage Collection at our Martin Luther King Branch. But finding materials to purchase is definitely a challenge! That sounds like a really interesting pre-conference topic. I'd also love to hear if anyone has experience with this and/or ideas to share!
