    The ALA Core Technical Services Workflow Efficiency Interest Group is seeking proposals for the ALA Core Interest Group Week 2024, March 4-8. We invite you to submit presentation proposals for our program, which will be held virtually on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (EST) / 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. (CST)

    Presentations will be limited to 15 minutes, with time for questions at the end of the hour. The charge of the Technical Services Workflow Efficiency Interest Group is to provide a forum to discuss and analyze techniques, new developments, problems, and technological advances in the workflows associated with the evaluation, selection, acquisition, and discovery of library materials and resources. We encourage and seek participation from anyone with an interest in technical services workflow efficiency - from public, academic, school, or special libraries - regardless of experience level or training.

    Theme: Opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) in technical services workflow efficiency

    Possible topics could include:

    • Cataloging and metadata enrichment
    • Classification and subject analysis
    • Language translation
    • Collection management optimization
    • Selection and acquisition of materials based on user preferences and demands
    • Training staff to use AI/ML in workflows
    • Ethical considerations
    • Privacy and data security concerns

    Please email proposals to co-chairs Tammie Busch (tabusch@siue.edu) and Caroline Saccucci (csus@loc.gov) by Friday, February 2, 2024.

    The presenters will be notified of decisions by Friday, February 9, 2024.
