I'm trying to put together some ideas for events that this group would like for 2022. I hope to see everyone at the panel this summer, but what types of activities/events would you like to see during the rest of the year. Here are some starting ideas, but let me know your own as well:
    • Discussions on Connect
    • Social media handles to follow
    • New and upcoming SF/F book notices or reviews
    • A newsletter
    • Just the panel is fine
    Thanks!

These are all good ideas, @Athina Livanos-Propst!

We'll be doing some Connect discussions in the Core Reading Club, and I'm always happy to cross-promote Imagineering activities in that channel. The Reading Club doesn't have plans at this point to do anything on or with social media, and it's not focused on SF/F specifically, so it would be great to cover those in this channel.

@Miranda Bennett we really should figure out some sort of read a long or cross promotion. I finally joined the reading club, so let's figure out things in that vein.

Hi, Athina! I think we'd all benefit from periodic updates on new and upcoming works, and reviews as people feel the urge to submit them.

I'd also be interested in discussions on Connect or elsewhere. I'm sure we all have thoughts. :)

Generally speaking, it would also be cool, I think, to investigate how we can instill library/librarian presences at cons and other SF&F events across the nation, really working to cement the importance of libraries to SF&F and vice versa.

    Thanks!

Ooh, I like the idea of helping to promote librarian presences at cons and SFF events. We do celebrate our nerdiness, because it is absolutely work celebrating.

To the above, has anyone on here done anything with a con, either at their local branch or something else?

And, critically, what're you all reading? I started Equinox by David Towsey over the weekend. It's one of the most fascinating fantasy set-ups I have seen in a long time, though at it's heart, it's a noir detective story.

I've done a few presentations and panels at Philcon pre-pandemic. Library specifically about what the library can offer and also about how to get self-pubbed books into libraries. As a library rep and SFF fan I've sat on panels about what cool books/media are coming out soon. I've never tabled at a con though.

And I just finished reading The Grief of Stones by Katherine Addison. I love the world of The Goblin Emperor! The latest SF I've read was Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik (Space adventure enemies to lovers romance. Heavy on the adventure. Great fun!) and The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi (Perfect popcorn reading, which is what he's best at)

I've done work with a bunch of cons (not administering, but presenting and showing the flag), including SDCC.
