    Core webinar: Centering Community in Community Engagement: Applying Inclusive Design to Set Vision and Engage Your Community in Your Facilities and Building Projects


    Date: Wednesday, December 15, 2021

    All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

     

    Description: In this fast-paced presentation, you will learn the inclusionary tactics that will ensure your building projects have incorporated the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the community! You will also learn how these techniques are translated into the library program and service model. This presentation will include examples from public libraries and concepts that are scalable to all sizes and types of libraries.


    Learning outcomes: 

    By the end of this webinar, attendees will have learned about:

    • Why authentic community engagement is critical to equity work;

    • How deep listening and learning are applied to elicit the community’s goals;

    • How to translate these conversations into future services and programs;

    • How these aspirations are translated into building designs;

    • The fundamental framework of Inclusive Design.

    Who should attend?  

    All in the industry who are interested in applying authentic community engagement practices to their work.


    Presenter:

    Margaret Sullivan is a leader in visioning, programming, and designing innovative cultural centers with a focus on public libraries, theaters, and museums. Collaborating with community leaders and national experts, Margaret positions public institutions to lead the social justice agenda for their communities. She skillfully collaborates with stakeholders and the design team to represent a holistic understanding of the institution’s service model and is a leader in translating community goals into physical spaces.
