    Hello ACIG,

I'm Cindy Stockard. I work at the State Library of Louisiana as a cataloger and authority control librarian. Mostly I handle state documents and Louisiana materials.

I'm looking forward to the ACIG program at Annual. Global authority control makes so much sense in this networked world.

The ALA Annual meeting is July 12, 2009, 1:30-4:30 at the McCormick Place West,  room W-179. The theme of the program is The Future is Now: Global Authority Control and will look at the expansion of authority control through increased collaboration and technological control of data, as well as added languages, scripts, and vocabularies. Presenters include Tim Spalding (LibraryThing), Karen Smith-Yoshimura (Community Identity Hub), Thomas Hickey (VIAF), Library of Congress (SKOS), Michael Kreyche (Spanish LCSH), Jeanne Spala (Global authorities in the local catalog), and Diane I. Hillmann (Registering the RDA Vocabularies). The program will be followed by a small reception and a business meeting. The business meeting includes elections for Vice-Chair, Secretary, Member-at-Large Subjects, Member-at-Large Series, and Member-at-Large Names. All are invited. Interested candidates for ACIG positions must be ALA members and part of  either the ALCTS or LITA Division. Plese contact Mary Mastraccio marym@marcive.com for further information.

    Hello Cindy.

Nice to make your acquaintance.  I'm Richard L Guinn, Technical Services Librarian at the University of Texas School of Public Health.  Sorry I have not had the opportunity to meet you in person yet.  As a new Member-at-Large with ACIG, I look forward to working with you and the other ACIG officers and members.  I agree, global authority control makes a great deal of sense.  I look forward to learning more about it.

I look forward to meeting you at ALA.

    Richard
