    ******************************
The LITA/ALCTS Library Linked Data Interest Group is sponsoring the following preconference at the 2014 ALA Annual Conference:

Practical Linked Data with Open Source

    Friday, June 27, 2014, from 8:30A.M - 4:30 P.M. in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

This preconference takes you from understanding linked data in theory into publishing linked data in practice! Through a series of learning exercises and live demonstrations, this day-long session will focus on state of the art linked data practices, including introductions to applications in open source integrated library systems, use of RDFa and schema.org to expose library data as structured data, and developing and using design patterns to help solve common linked data problems. This preconference is aimed primarily at catalogers and metadata specialists with some familiarity of RDF; some knowledge of XML and HTML will also be assumed (although not required). Participants should also bring a laptop to use during coding exercises.

    Presenters:

Galen Charlton, Manager of Implementation, Equinox Software, Inc., Duluth, GA

Jodi Schneider, ERCIM Marie Curie Fellow, Inria Research Centre, Sophia Antipolis, France

Dan Scott, Systems Librarian, Laurentian University, Ontario, Canada

Richard Urban, Assistant Professor, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL

The cost is $235 for LITA members, $350 for ALA members that are not LITA
members, and $380 for all others. Registration for the 2014 ALA Annual Conference is *not* required in order to register for this preconference.
