Hello everyone,
I am posting this message on the ALA Connect community page for the FRBR IG, and emailing it to everyone who signed the attendance sheet at the last IG meeting at ALA Annual 2009. Apologies for any duplication.
I have been informed by ALCTS Organization and Bylaws, that it's time to submit a renewal petition for the FRBR Interest Group. This is something all IG's have to do every five years. As part of the process, the membership of the IG needs to review the function statement of the group and either approve it or change it, and come to a consensus about whether or not to renew the group. Now here's the trick: we need to have the petition in to O&B before Midwinter.
The function statement, as posted on the ALA Connect page, currently reads: "Provides a forum for the discussion of issues derived from or related to IFLA’s Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records, including implementation and research." Does this still fit with our interests? Do you have any changes to suggest?
As chair of the IG, I believe it should be renewed. FRBR and its related topics are still highly interesting to Technical Services librarians; we always have lively discussions at our meetings, and I think everyone comes away wanting more time to keep going! I think this demonstrates that the IG is still relevant and timely. Do you agree?
As I said above, I need to have the petition turned in to O&B before Midwinter. If you have comments, even if it's only to say "I agree", please post them here. I'd like to close discussion by the end of December, so I have time to send in the petition and handle any issues that may come up before we all go to Boston.
Thanks,
Tami Morse McGill
