The ALA Core Bibliographic Conceptual Models (BMC) Interest Group seeks speakers to present during the ALA Core Virtual Interest Group Week. The BMC meeting will take place on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 11am ET (8am PT, 10am CT, 16:00 UTC).
Bibliographic conceptual models, such as IFLA-LRM and BIBFRAME 2.0, continue to be a challenge for catalogers on the ground due to the clash between theory and practice. Many discussions focus around the harmonization of different modeling approaches suited for a linked data publishing framework, and yet the vast majority of cataloging work world-wide is still tightly embedded in a MARC environment. For the 2022 ALA Core Virtual Interest Group Week, we would like to explore projects aimed to bridge these two realities with the development of workflows and transformation scenarios that allow Linked Open Data-based bibliographic descriptions and MARC records to co-exist in a foreseeable mixed environment.
We look forward to providing an engaging session with 2-3 short presentations (15 minutes maximum) followed by a group discussion. Please submit your proposal by emailing the Interest Group's Co-chairs, Paloma Graciani Picardo (paloma.graciani@austin.utexas.edu) and Tom Dousa (tmdousa@uchicago.edu), by Friday, January 28, 2022. The presenters will be notified of decisions by Friday, February 4th.
Your proposal should include the following:
- Name, email, job title and affiliated institution of the presenter(s)
- Title of the presentation
- Abstract not to exceed 300 words.
Don't hesitate to reach out with any question. We look forward to hearing from you!
