    Hi, 

    I am a member of my library's AI working group, and we are interested in learning more about how other libraries are marketing their AI services or resources. We are investigating what would be the best format (video, libguide etc.) to share our expertise and services regarding AI information literacy. I would appreciate any information on AI outreach that your library is currently doing/considering or any advice/suggestions you could share.

    Hi Sally,

    We are just beginning to make plans for this sort of work at my library. 

    A group of us did some research and produced the following recommendations that we will likely act on for next AY:

    • Promoting AI information literacy instruction as an option for one-shot library instruction sessions 
    • Creating AI info lit and AI tool use workshops; promote as scheduled open invitation events and available upon request 
      • We will likely focus on teaching tool use as the primary draw (i.e., ResearchRabbit, elicit, _scite, or something similar that has special relevance to research strategies), with AI info lit an essential part of all sessions 
    • Creating an AI subject guide with the intention of mapping content to other guides as requested by faculty
      • LibGuides are great, but getting users to the content can be challenging. We are fortunate to have LTI enabled so that we can get our LibGuide content right into Canvas shells on a course-by-course basis
    • We also want to equip our librarians that provide research consultations with the confidence to answer AI-related questions (citing, transparency, tool recommendations, ethical considerations, etc.). Consultations can be great opportunities for word-of-mouth promotion. Also, once we are caught up on this, our desk staff can help refer students to us that have AI-related questions. 

    These are just a few basic ideas we have simmering right now. I realize this might not be speaking directly to your question about the best format! 

    Personally, if I were to pick what I felt was most promising for us, it would be those direct lines of communication, supported by hosting learning objects in whatever library resource platform your campus community is already familiar with (such as LibGuides).

    Getting one-shot instruction into the classrooms and offering a workshop here and there can go a long way if you already have these lines of communication available to you. If you also have asynchronous support content on the ready, you can promote that in these sessions. So, all of the above? Ha!
