The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Posted an hour ago

    Dear colleagues,

To mark ALA's 150th anniversary, the Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) is compiling a zine of the contributions SRRT has made over the past 57 years to librarianship.  Zine organizers seek stories from those who would like to contribute short pieces that provide interesting details about events, people, issues in SRRT's past.  What follows is a brief description of the project and an outline of what will be included.  If you have a story, photo, graphic, etc. to share please contact me either via Connect or email eharger@drizzle.com.

Thank you so much for considering a contribution!

    Elaine Harger

    ALA@150 -- a SRRT Zine

Purpose:  The Social Responsibilities Round Table entered into the history of the American Library Association in 1969.  Prompted by a variety of longstanding shortcomings within ALA - racism, ethnocentrism, autocracy, elitism, exclusion of many types - SRRT founders insisted on change.  Over the past 50+ years SRRT activism has indeed contributed to change within librarianship.  This zine seeks to document the contributions SRRT has made to both the Association and to the profession.

    What will be included:

      • a timeline of task forces
      • a list of resolutions
      • a list of statements
      • examples of programs and webinars
      • images
      • resources

    What is needed:

      • photos
      • personal recollections of specific SRRT events
