The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hi, everyone,

I wanted to let you know that SRRT is working with other ALA groups (COSWL and possible RRT so far) on a response to today's Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. If you are at ALA Annual and interested in ALA's response to this decision, come to a SRRT meeting, especially tonight's Membership/All Task Force meeting, 7:30-9:30pm at the Marriott Marquis, Archives room.

We are in particular interested in a parallel between this and the 1977 Resolution on the Equal Rights Amendment, adopted by Council, that committed the association to meeting only in states that had passed the Equal Rights Amendment.

Also, if you know of other ALA groups that are working on this, please share so that we can all work together.
