The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    All –

I wanted to thank everyone for a great year as SRRT Coordinator. Here's a highlight of what we've accomplished in the last year:

    • Successful resolutions: Our 2022 Resolution on Continuing Virtual Access to ALA Membership Meetings passed the Budget Analysis and Review Committee review and was approved by Council in January. And as you've probably already seen, all of our resolutions at Annual passed.

    • Creation of two new committees: SRRT Programming Committee and SRRT Social Media & Web Committee

    • Updates to SRRT Website: We have finalized our work with ALA Archives to upload nearly every resolution, minutes, and newsletter from SRRT history!

    • Successful Programming:
      • 2022 Afternoon of Social Justice – We had two presentations: Paying Better Attention to Indigenous Communities and Neurodiversity in the Library. The recordings can be found online.
      • Homelessness Summit – Day-long summit featuring a variety of programs on homelessness. Speakers included library workers and those with lived experience. Recordings are available online.

    • Upcoming Programming:
      • Poverty, By America book talk – July 13 at 1pm Central
      • 2023 Afternoon of Social Justice – Three presentations scheduled for August 9th. As soon as the registration links are ready, we'll send them out!
        • What Can U.S. Librarians Learn from Feminist Struggles Against Imperialist Invasion in Ukraine, Military Wars in Sudan and Religious Fundamentalism in Iran?
        • Panel: Disability is Not a Bad Word
        • Film Screening & Discussion: Boycott

I also wanted to thank Action Council for all their feedback and input during the last year. I still sometimes feel like a baby in the world of SRRT, so everyone's expertise and input was always greatly appreciated.

As I end my term as SRRT Coordinator, I feel very positive about the direction SRRT is going in. Thank you for letting me serve. And don't worry, I'll be around on Action Council – you can't get rid of me that easy.
