The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Dear SRRT Members:

    SRRT needs YOU! Please consider running for SRRT Action Council. Action Council, the coordinating body of the Social Responsibilities Round Table. Action Council consists of 10 at-large SRRT members (elected by the SRRT membership) and one ALA Councilor (also elected by the SRRT membership).

    SRRT has 3 Action Council terms and one ALA Councilor representing SRRT expiring in 2024. The terms are 3-year terms. Action Council meets during the Annual conferences and also meets virtually throughout the year.  Those elected this spring will have terms starting at the end of the 2024 Annual Conference and running through the end of the 2027 Annual Conference. Current Action Council members whose terms are up are eligible to run again.

    To run for a position, here is the link for nominees to submit biographical information for the official ballot. Please use this link to populate your demographic information per the Action Council position you are running for, so that your most current information appears on the actual ballot in the Spring. Deadline for ballot application - please note that nominee biographical information is due no later than December 31, 2023, at which point the portal to complete nomination information will close. The ALA 2024 Election Period will be March 11, 2024 – April 3, 2024.
