In this panel discussion, audience members will hear from some of the charter members of the Elder Justice Task Force (EJTF). Formed under the Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) of the American Library Association (ALA), the EJTF was developed during our current era of profound societal aging to address inequities for older adults through the lenses of libraries, social justice, and community organizing. The EJTF is presented as a case study for participants who are interested in working in their communities and professional associations to affect change around important timely needs that libraries can and should help address. Specifically, panel topics will include the formation of the task force, identifying initial goals and action steps, building capacity to meet those steps, progress towards accomplishing those goals, and reflection on what challenges and opportunities have been met and what lies ahead. Whether you are interested specifically in the needs of our elders or want to act on other needs you see in your community and professional associations, this panel and subsequent discussion with audience members will help you get started.
