The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

  • 1.  seeking input re: planning grant for library training about homelessness

    Posted Mar 27, 2024 05:49 PM

    Hello, everyone,

I am in the information gathering stage for a possible IMLS Planning grant to design a librarian-directed, library services-focused training curriculum around serving people experiencing homelessness in libraries. My thinking is that this training would be an alternative to existing trainings, focus on social justice and equity, and have some emphasis on reaching and serving youth and families (as they are often underserved).

At this stage, I am looking for librarians and libraries that might be interested in being involved with the application, or are at least interested in brainstorming ideas of what this curriculum and its implementation might look like.

If you are interested, please email me off-list at vikki.terrile@qc.cuny.edu.

    Thank you!

    Vikki,

If you don't get enough responses here, you might want to try reaching out to some of the people who presented at our homelessness summit in 2022: https://www.ala.org/rt/srrt/2022homelessness_summit
