SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Dear friends, colleagues, and comrades,

    I write to let you know that the second update article to my book has just been published in volume 10 of the Journal of Radical Librarianship, which is freely available online. Here is the URL, https://journal.radicallibrarianship.org/index.php/journal/article/view/126/107

    The book is Progressive Library Organizations: A Worldwide History (McGarland, 2015). The first update was also published in the Journal of Radical Librarianship, vol. 4 (2018). It covered the years 2013-2017. This update is for 2018-2023.

    It of course covers SRRT and PLG, and it also has extensive coverage of the Swedish organization (BiS), and concluding coverage for the German and Austrian groups. The BiS coverage is based on interviews I did in Sweden last summer and extensive review of documents (using Google Translate).
