The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hello SRRT members,

Given the recent changes adopted by ALA Governance in September 2025, Round Tables will no longer be electing "Member at Large" positions through the unified ALA Election Ballot.

Electable positions are Coordinator-Elect (Chair-Elect on the ballot), Secretary, and Treasurer.

Below are brief descriptions of each position, taken from the Action Council Guidebook. Note that while all serve one-year terms, the Coordinator-Elect is part of a 3-year cycle (1 year as Coordinator-elect, 1 year as Coordinator, 1 year as Past Coordinator).

    Coordinator-Elect (Chair-Elect on the ballot)

    · Assists the Coordinator in the coordination of Action Council, including serving as a springboard for ideas.

    · Steers meetings in the Coordinator's absence.

    · May attend meetings or events on the Coordinator's behalf and represent the round table at conference meetings.

    SRRT Secretary

    · Records the minutes of the meetings of Action Council and the General SRRT Membership Meeting and distributes the minutes as appropriate, including to the SRRT Newsletter editor.

    · Prepares and distributes all SRRT resolutions as directed in the resolution, including appropriate cover letters.

    · Maintains current files of SRRT minutes, resolutions, correspondence, and Task Force reports. Older material is forwarded to the ALA/SRRT Archives as appropriate.

    · Works as part of a team with the Coordinator of SRRT Action Council and the SRRT Treasurer to ensure the smooth operation of the Round Table.

    SRRT Treasurer

    · Compiles budget requests for presentation to the Action Council.

    · Completes ALA reimbursement forms and submits them to OLOS for processing.

    · Maintains records for each Task Force budget and the general Action Council budget and works with Task Forces to ensure that their documents and SRRT records coincide.

    · Serves as SRRT's representative to ALA's Planning and Budget Assembly.

    · Works as part of a team with the Coordinator of the SRRT Action Council and the SRRT Secretary to ensure the smooth operation of the Round Table.

All nomination forms must be submitted to the portal by end of day Friday, December 12.

    With thanks, Rachel
