The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Greetings all,

    Here are the latest large round table membership statistics as of December 2025. I am sorry to report that SRRT has again fallen, down to the 7th largest round table.

    The only large round table to gain membership over the past year is the Intellectual Freedom Round Table. All the others lost members, and all but two of these in the double digits. On a percentage basis, SRRT lost the most members, 22.73%, although the new Members Round Table and the Sustainability Round Table did almost as badly. All of the round tables except IFRT and RRT did worse than ALA itself. Perhaps the ALA Executive Board and ALA Council's draconian mandates have something to do with these poor membership trends.

    ALA has 44,286 members, down 5.29% from the previous year.
