The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Dear colleagues,

Thanks to many of you who questioned the goals of the resolution I posted previously for consideration at the upcoming, virtual ALA Membership Meeting.  The ALA Resolutions Committee agreed that the resolved clause was vague.  Like many writers, I knew in my head what I meant, but readers did not!  So, again, many thanks for the nudges to clarify.  Al Kagan and I have done so, we believe the goals of the resolution are now quite clear, and would like you to see if we succeeded.

The revised resolution is attached as a PDF.

    In solidarity,

    Elaine
