The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Dear SRRT Members,

On behalf of the ALA AI Policy Working Group, they are pleased to share the draft document, Guidance of the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries. [PDF]

This document is intended to support library professionals in navigating the opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence presents for our institutions, our communities, and our profession.

The Working Group has spent considerable time examining these questions through the lens of ALA's Core Values, and they welcome your perspective as this work moves toward consideration at Annual 2026 in Chicago.

Please complete the feedback form by May 8, 2026. Your responses will be shared with the Working Group co-chairs and may inform revisions prior to Council action.

    Thank you!
