The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hello everyone,
I'm posting this for a student. As she mentions, even if you don't donate, forwarding this information to others would be great. Thanks, Julie
    Her posting:
    SRRT Members,
My name is Chloe Salyer and I am a full time student in the University of Tennessee's Master of Science in Information Science Program. I am also a new member of ALA , and I am a full time employee at East Tennessee State University for a federally funded program called TRIO Student Support Services.
As many of you already know, East TN, Southwest VA, and Western North Carolina recently experienced record breaking devastation as a result of Hurricane Helene.  In response to this crisis, I wanted to start this thread to provide some resources and ways to donate, in case any ALA members would like to contribute to helping my community.  Even if you're unable to give, feel free to share these resources with people you know or in forums you are part of.
It has been truly heartbreaking to witness the devastation and suffering in my community, and there are no words to fully describe the impact. Thank you all for taking the time to read my post, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
