The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Hello all. I observed the virtual SRRT AC meeting the other day. I saw there was a resolution related to freedom of expression introduced by the SRRT Councilor but it was only up in the chat space for a few minutes.
Will the SRRT Councilor please post the resolution on this list so interested members can see it? This issue is even more important this week than it was last week! I assume the idea is to submit it to ALA Council at Annual. Thanks.

Ann,thanks for raising this issue. It is criminal for our orgs to dismiss these statements. Health associations could also denounce the murders of Palestinian health care workers and the destruction of their hospitals. The AMA, APHA, ALA, and others could urge members to get into the streets, unions, schools, worksites, and universities to defend those most vulnerable. In the end, we all are.

And thanks to SRRT members trying to do so.

I believe that Tara is finalizing it. She said that it wasn't finished yet. I expect she'll share it as soon as it's done.

I will just ask how she can "finalize" it without consulting the Action Council?

Apologies. I meant that I understood she was finalizing the draft before sharing it with Action Council.
