The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Request for SRRT Member Feedback on ALA Member Resolution on Privacy Education in Libraries

  • 1.  Request for SRRT Member Feedback on ALA Member Resolution on Privacy Education in Libraries

    Posted 4 hours ago

Sarah Hartman-Caverly (smh767@psu.edu), the project director of Libraries Stand for Privacy: National Forum for Privacy Literacy Standards and Competencies, is requesting feedback from SRRT members on the ALA Member Resolution on Privacy Education in Libraries, which will be put forward at ALA Annual 2026.

Here is the context they provided: "We convened a national forum of more than 60 library workers across public, school, and academic libraries, along with allied scholars, to answer a need for consensus standards and frameworks for library-based privacy education across the lifespan. We think this Resolution, and the Libraries Teach Privacy educator resources that it references, is of interest to members of SRRT."

I invite SRRT members to please take a look at the Resolution and send any feedback directly to Sarah at the email address shared above.

    With thanks, Rachel
