SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

SubjectUpdate to the Code of Conduct

On August 1, 2024, an updated Online Code of Conduct will be released.

The Online Code of Conduct was designed to build and sustain an open, inclusive, and collaborative experience for participants on all online platforms used by ALA.

The Online Code of Conduct is a living document that is intended to be improved upon by the guidance of the ALA Code of Conduct Committee. The updates to the Online Code of Conduct reflect this input and the work of the established Code of Conduct Committee.

Users of ALA Connect can expect the following changes due to the updates in the Online Code of Conduct:

Adds language that reinforces a successful, respectful, and safe community by discouraging members from intentionally sharing content outside of ALA Connect for retaliatory purposes.

Addresses Member concerns surrounding Transparency by clearly displaying links to Moderation types, ALA Connect Transparency Reports, and ALA Connect Moderation Policies and Procedures.

On August 1, 2024, please log in to ALA Connect, where you'll be prompted to review and agree to the new Online Code of Conduct: https://connect.ala.org/codeofconduct

All ALA Connect users must agree to the new Online Code of Conduct before posting on the platform.

Users of other sites/channels will not be prompted to agree; however, activity on those channels will now be governed by this updated Online Code of Conduct.

If you have any questions about the new Online Code of Conduct, please feel free to reach out to the ALA Connect Community Manager, Cory Stevenson, at cstevenson@ala.org.
