Hello!
Adding on to Olivia's message about events at ALA in Philadelphia this weekend, I wanted to share some additional details for any SRRT members who might want to attend.
First, I am grateful for SRRT's sponsorship of me as an ALA Emerging Leader in the 2025 cohort this year. I am in the group working on a project from the Office of Intellectual Freedom (OIF) and the Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT). We created a survey to evaluate the current state of intellectual freedom education across ALA and American Association of School Librarians (AASL)-accredited library science programs to help guide future policy and practice for the Office of Intellectual Freedom. We will share our data and findings in the poster session on Friday. Unfortunately it overlaps with the SRRT Membership Meeting! So I am attaching our poster and infographics based on our data that I designed.
Emerging Leaders Poster Session
Friday, June 27, 2025
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM EDT
Pennsylvania Convention Center, Ballroom A
Event Description: Conference attendees are invited to meet the current class of Emerging Leaders as each team highlights their creative and innovative solutions to projects they have worked on the past six months.
Second, I have been working with Olivia and Al on the session below. Olivia and Al will present on the current goals and history of SRRT. The radical independent publishers present will share upcoming books (and advance copies and swag!) that reflect SRRT proposed resolution topics. We hope that the last half our of the session can be a time to discuss ways that we (SRRT and indie publishers) can work together on our shared goals. I hope you can come and thank you to SRRT for providing the space and time for this conversation.
Building Radical Collections: Advocacy, Access, and Alliances with SRRT and Indie Presses
Saturday, June 28, 2025
10:30 AM-12:00 PM EDT
Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 123
This session, hosted by the Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT), explores how librarians and independent publishers share a deep commitment to social justice, the public good, and equitable access to information. SRRT leadership will share the round table's mission and legacy, then invite a panel of independent publishers-including Haymarket Books, Seven Stories Press, Pluto Press, PM Press, Beacon Press, Feminist Press, and Common Notions-to introduce their press and spotlight a forthcoming title. The session will culminate in a discussion of how librarians and independent publishers can work together to advocate for a more just, inclusive, and sustainable information ecosystem as well as deep and diverse library collections.
Beyond that, please find me in the Seven Stories Booth in the Indie Press Pavilion (booth 1251) on Sunday, or at the Library Freedom Project / Library Futures gathering on Sunday: Library Futures & Library Freedom Project Mix 'n Mingle at ALA!
Thank you!
