The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hello SRRT members,

I enjoyed reading the beautiful tribute to Mitch Freedman by his daughter Jenna that Pat Schuman posted.

Please see this posting of a draft memorial resolution honoring former ALA Executive Board Member Maurice J "Mitch" Freedman who passed away March 5, 2026. If you are interested in signing onto the resolution, please add your name to this Google doc or respond to this post and we will add you.

    Thanks much,

    Maria
