The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

SRRT members who will be attending ALA Annual this weekend and want to support hotel workers in Philly, please check out the message below from UNITE HERE Local 274. - Mark Hudson

UNITE HERE Local 274 represents the housekeepers, bellmen, bartenders, and many other workers in a number of hotels in Philly, including 8 hotels in center city where the contracts are currently expired. Negotiations are ongoing, and hotel workers are fighting for fair wages and staffing levels. The union has recently won transformative hotel contracts in cities across the country and workers in Philly are ready to fight for their fair share.

Local 274 invites all library workers to join us in sending a message that Philly's hotel workers deserve a fair deal, 1pm Sunday 6/29 at the Hilton Garden Inn (1800 Arch St, right next to the convention center).
