SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Dear Colleagues:

    Last month,  Wonda Powell and I had the honor of giving keynote speeches to a conference on the future of libraries.  The conference was organized by the Pacific Library Partnership and held at the San Francisco Public Library.    I spoke about "Confronting Disinformation and Book Bans by Cultivating Critical Thinking and Empathy."    Wonda Powell's speech was entitled,  "From Critical Thinking to Critical Race Theory:  Unearthing History."    The speeches and other conference panels can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
