The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Just getting in under the wire, but today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.  I saw the real connections between libraries and serving older adults (including elder abuse survivors) when I was finishing my MSLIS and leading the elder abuse response program at my local office on aging. I hope you will take a few minutes to review this toolkit put together by the Elder Justice Coalition (not to be confused with SRRT's Elder Justice Task Force!). We should all consider how we can continue to serve older adults in our aging society.

    Sincerely,

    Joseph Winberry
