The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Please excuse the cross-posting.

Are you an academic librarian with instructional or teaching responsibilities currently working at an institution of higher education based in the United States? Are you interested in sharing your experiences working with disciplinary faculty, recent professional development, and your institution's culture?

This study aims to explore academic librarian behavior with faculty and how professional development and institutional culture may impact librarian behavior. As a participant in the first phase of this research study, you will be asked to complete the Exploring Instructional Librarians' Backgrounds and Behavior Survey, which will take approximately 10 - 12 minutes.

This is a mixed methods study with two distinct phases. Participants in the first phase will be asked to take a survey. This survey will be open for one month, so please submit your survey by February 3. Participants in the second phase will be selected from those who indicated their interest in the interview on the survey. Participation in the survey can be done without involvement in the in-depth interviews. If you indicate your interest, you may be solicited to participate in an in-depth interview from February to March 2025.

By participating in the survey, you can enter to be randomly chosen to receive one of ten $20 Mastercard gift cards. The risks of participating in the survey phase of the study are minimal. You may feel discomfort thinking about negative work experiences. An indirect benefit of your participation is helping to further research in this area, which may positively impact future instruction librarians and library education.

For more information about the survey and consent form, please visit the survey or email Jenelle at jme26@pitt.edu. The University of Pittsburgh Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviewed this research (IRB Study 24080153), including the survey.

Please feel free to share this survey widely with colleagues.
