The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

ALA Members:
Thank you all for your concern for the Lahaina community. ALA President Emily Drabinski has messaged with Hawaii State Librarian Stacey Aldrich and the Chapter Relations Office has connected with leaders of the Hawaii Library Association. They have expressed their appreciation for the thoughts and concerns of the entire library community. The Lāhāina Public Library has only walls and a sign left. The roof and the collections are all in ashes.
At this time no materials are being sought as everything is being assessed in what will be a long recovery and rebuilding effort. Monetary donations to assist the library can be made to the ALA Disaster Relief Fund and you can direct to Hawaii by putting 'Hawaii' in the Tribute text box.
