The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Happy Friday!

I wanted to give everyone a peak at what SRRT is doing at ALA Annual this year. We have created a web page that includes our events and other meetings that may be of interest. I am also pasting the SRRT events below. Please note that the membership meeting is Friday at 2:30pm. I hope this time will work better for everyone than the late evening times and that I'll see you in Chicago! If you have anything you'd like to see at the membership meeting, please let me know!

All SRRT meetings and events are open to everyone.

All times are listed in Central time (CT).

    • Now Showing @ ALA: Boycott (Film), 10:30am - 12:00pm, W471A
SRRT presents the film, Boycott, at the Annual Conference in Chicago. The film addresses the large number of state laws that prohibit state contractors from endorsing a boycott of Israel in order to get state contracts. Several of these state laws have been declared unconstitutional, but the Arkansas law was upheld in their state court. Copycat laws are also sprouting in various states that prohibit boycotting firearms and fossil fuels corporations. These state laws are a direct attack on the First Amendment. SRRT has documented numerous instances where libraries/state agencies and city governments have been forced to sign off to get state library contracts. See our website page on "Anti-BDS Legislation: The Library Connection" for sample cases.
