The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Good morning. The final FY 2024 package of spending bills arrived early this morning. Barring any last-minute delays, the House and Senate are expected to approve the package tomorrow...just hours before the midnight expiration of the Continuing Resolution.
As we continue digging through the details of the massive 1,012 page bill, I wanted to share positive news that the package calls for level funding of IMLS (at $294.8 million), LSTA ($211 million), Innovative Approaches to Literacy ($30 million), as well as funding several library-related earmarks. Overall, the bill provides a small cut to Department of Education programs, further indication that level funding of library programs is something of a win!
