"Without fuel, aid cannot be delivered, hospitals will not have power, and drinking water cannot be purified or even pumped." – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
Al: While trucks carrying humanitarian aid have finally been able to enter Gaza with life-saving drinking water, food, and medicines, an essential element has been missing: Fuel.
The Biden administration and the international community are thankfully doing more to secure and prioritize getting critically needed humanitarian aid to Gaza in the face of the Israeli government's blockade - but it's still not enough. Without the fuel necessary to keep hospital generators and ambulances running, these relief efforts will be hamstrung, and lives will be unnecessarily lost.
The human costs of this moment are already too heavy to bear. The Biden administration - as a key ally to the Israeli government - must do all it can to save lives. Our voices have already played a pivotal role in calling for the White House to respond to the ongoing crisis with aid, and, Al, we've got to keep the pressure on.
Can you add your name to an urgent petition calling on the Biden administration to insist that humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip include fuel?
The indiscriminate attacks by Hamas on everyday people in Israel on October 7 were abhorrent and unjustifiable. But what's happening in Gaza today isn't justice. The Israeli government cutting off millions of people from water, food, and fuel while showering them with bombs must stop now. That's why Win Without War, alongside tens of thousands of activists like yourself, has called for a stop to the violence through a ceasefire.
As we amplify that urgent demand, we're also continuing to identify and work every angle possible that can save lives. That includes ensuring humanitarian relief reaches people on the ground.
On Tuesday, the World Health Organization reported six hospitals across the Gaza Strip have already shut down because of a lack of fuel. Yesterday, the Palestine Red Crescent, part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, announced that it only had enough fuel to keep its hospital and ambulances running in Gaza for one or two more days.
Earlier this week, Phillippe Lazzarini, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Commissioner-General, laid bare the simple reality: "Without fuel, we will fail the people of Gaza whose needs are growing by the hour, under our watch. This cannot and should not happen."
And it doesn't have to. Voices like yours are already reshaping the political debate around this crisis. So please, join us now to keep up the pressure and help save lives.
Can you add your name to an urgent petition letting the Biden administration know that humanitarian aid must include fuel supplies?
Thank you for working for peace,
