The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

I am  so saddened to transmit the news that my very dear friend and ALA past- President  Maurice "Mitch" Freedman passed  away this morning. Mitch was dedicated to ALA and our profession and loved dearly by many.

Subject: the update you don't want

Mitch/Maurice drew his last breath surrounded by family and a devoted nurse with Billie Holiday singing him off to whatever is next.

A local funeral parlor will take care of his body. We will hold a memorial service later this spring.

We won't do a formal shiva.

With much gratitude for your love for Mitch and our whole family,

Paula, Jenna, Eric, Susan, Danna, Michael, Jesse, Julia, and Ella
