SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hi all,

As co-coordinators, Rachel & I are working hard to remain tuned in and engaged with the copious and often heated conversations that take place over SRRT's Connect spaces. Please understand that we are also each employed in full-time jobs that demand a great deal of our time, attention, and energy throughout the day, and it can be challenging to balance SRRT volunteer work with those demands. So while our responses on Connect may be delayed at times, please know that we do care, we are listening, and we are doing our best.

With particular regard to the latest discussions & debate around the ALA program assessment, we will confer with one another and any other advisory parties who may be able to provide additional information/resources. Once we have a clearer picture of where things stand and what options may be at our disposal, we will come back here to Connect to address as many concerns as we can.

In the meantime, we would encourage ongoing constructive discussion, and request that folks please try to refrain from escalations such as yelling (i.e. all-caps), assumptions regarding anyone's values or priorities, etc.

Thank you for your patience, and please stay tuned for more soon,

    Olivia & Rachel

Thank you for your hard work and dedication. The situation is both confusing and critical. You have no easy tasks.
